Moscow, February 28: Russia’s Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned what it described as military aggression by the United States and Israel against Iran, following reported airstrikes carried out early Friday morning on Iranian territory. In an official statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry termed the strikes a “deliberate, premeditated, and unprovoked act of armed aggression” against a sovereign UN member state. It said the scale of military, political, and media preparations — including the deployment of significant US forces to the region — indicated that the operation had been carefully planned in advance.Moscow further criticized the timing of the attacks, noting they came amid renewed diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation surrounding Iran. The statement also referenced prior assurances allegedly given to the Russian side suggesting that Israel had no intention of entering into direct military confrontation with Iran.
The ministry called on the international community, including the leadership of the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency, to provide what it described as an objective and unbiased assessment of the situation.According to the statement, the strikes risk pushing the Middle East toward a humanitarian, economic, and potentially radiological crisis. It warned that attacks on nuclear facilities operating under IAEA safeguards are unacceptable and could have serious consequences for the global non-proliferation regime, particularly the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
The Russian Foreign Ministry accused Washington and Tel Aviv of undermining international legal norms, including non-interference in internal affairs, the prohibition of the use of force, and the peaceful settlement of disputes.Concluding its statement, Moscow urged an immediate return to political and diplomatic dialogue, reiterating that Russia stands ready to support peaceful solutions based on international law, mutual respect, and balanced consideration of interests.
