Some people enter our lives as friends, but with their sincerity, kindness, character and companionship, theybecome an inseparable part of our journey. Mudassar Shah Afridi was one such person in my life.My relationship with Mudassar began in 1999 at NUML. From that day until the very end of his life,Alhamdulillah, we remained together as friends and companions. More than two decades of friendship gave uscountless memories filled with laughter, affection, sincerity, and moments of standing by each other through life.
A Friendship Built Over Decades
Life can be incredibly unpredictable. On 2 August, we had lunch together in Islamabad. We spent time together just as we had done so many times before, completely unaware that it would be our last meal and ourlast meeting. The very next day, 3 August, at around 1100 hours, Mudassar left me forever. It is still difficultto accept that a friend who had been part of my life for so many years is no longer physically with us.
Mudassar worked for DW and was deeply committed to highlighting the lives and struggles of poor and under privileged people. He covered many stories concerning those who were often unheard and unseen. This reflected not only his professional commitment but also the compassion and humanity within him.
A Man of Character and Dignity
He was, above all, a great human being. His manners, conduct, respect for others, way of speaking, and dignified personality were truly exceptional. He had his own unique style of treating people with respect and warmth. People like Mudassar are rare in this world.Every moment spent with him has now become a golden memory. Our meetings, conversations, trips, meals,laughter and countless small moments that once seemed ordinary have today become some of the most precious memories of my life.
Memories That Will Always Remain
His departure has created a void that can never truly be filled. Life will continue and time will pass, but hisabsence will always be felt. Some friendships do not end with death; they simply take a different form and liveforever in our hearts.Mudassar, you may no longer be physically among us, but your smile, your kindness, your character andthe beautiful memories we shared will remain with us forever.
