Pakistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the maritime sector, with both countries exploring new avenues to facilitate trade and improve regional connectivity through Pakistani ports.The understanding was reached during a farewell meeting between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Yerzhan Kistafin.During the meeting, the minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding economic engagement with Kazakhstan and underscored the importance of maritime cooperation in promoting regional trade. He said Pakistan’s ports, including Karachi Port, Port Qasim and Gwadar Port, are well positioned to serve as efficient gateways for Kazakh exports and imports, connecting Central Asia with international markets.
He also expressed Pakistan’s willingness to provide the necessary port infrastructure and logistical support for Kazakh cargo while encouraging investment opportunities, including possible joint ventures in free zones.Paying tribute to Ambassador Kistafin’s diplomatic services, the minister appreciated his role in bringing the two countries closer and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to grow after the completion of his tenure.Ambassador Kistafin said there is significant untapped potential in trade and maritime cooperation between Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
He noted that stronger coordination in the ports and shipping sectors could help increase bilateral trade and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.The two sides also discussed practical measures to improve institutional cooperation and facilitate the movement of Kazakh goods through Pakistani ports, reflecting their shared commitment to enhancing regional economic connectivity.
