ISLAMABAD, Aug 10, 2026: Pakistan and Russia have discussed new avenues for expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture and livestock, with a particular focus on agricultural machinery, fertilizers, pesticides, vaccines and modern technologies.The discussions took place during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain with Nikita Bozhanov, representative of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
The federal minister underscored the importance of strengthening agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, welcoming Moscow’s interest in enhancing trade, technology transfer and technical cooperation to support Pakistan’s agricultural development.Rana Tanveer said Pakistan attaches special importance to its relations with Russia and seeks to translate bilateral ties into practical cooperation in sectors directly linked to food security and agricultural productivity.He highlighted the need for greater access to modern agricultural machinery, saying mechanization could help increase farm productivity, reduce production costs and accelerate the modernization of Pakistan’s agriculture sector.
The minister also stressed the importance of ensuring timely and affordable access to quality fertilizers and pesticides for farmers. He noted that enhanced cooperation with Russia in these areas could contribute to higher agricultural output and help Pakistan achieve its food security objectives.Cooperation in the livestock and animal health sectors was also discussed. Rana Tanveer emphasized the importance of access to quality vaccines and modern technologies to prevent animal diseases, improve livestock productivity and protect farmers’ economic interests.He called for stronger linkages among relevant institutions and private-sector stakeholders of both countries to identify areas where bilateral cooperation could be translated into practical projects and mutually beneficial trade.
Nikita Bozhanov conveyed Russia’s interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan’s agricultural sector. He said Russian companies and institutions were prepared to explore opportunities to supply agricultural machinery, fertilizers, pesticides and vaccines to Pakistan.He added that Russia was ready to assess Pakistan’s agricultural requirements and develop effective mechanisms for closer cooperation in agricultural inputs, machinery and animal health products.The Russian representative also highlighted the potential for increasing bilateral trade in agricultural products and stressed the need to further strengthen institutional linkages between the two countries.
Rana Tanveer welcomed Russia’s interest in strengthening agricultural cooperation and directed relevant authorities to undertake a detailed assessment of potential areas of collaboration.Both sides agreed to continue consultations and explore additional opportunities for cooperation aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, improving the availability of quality agricultural inputs and supporting Pakistan’s broader food security goals.
