The Asia Pacific Group has endorsed Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti for membership of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Committee on Health, marking a significant development in Pakistan’s parliamentary engagement at the international level.
The endorsement is being viewed as recognition of Senator Chishti’s strong commitment to public health and his active role in parliamentary affairs. His expected inclusion in the committee is likely to enhance international cooperation on health-related issues within the IPU framework.Officials noted that Pakistan’s representation in global parliamentary forums continues to reflect its growing involvement in addressing key global challenges, particularly in the health sector.
Meanwhile, in line with the country’s ongoing austerity measures, members of parliament participating in IPU engagements—including Senator Chishti—are attending such forums at their own expense. This step underscores a commitment to responsible use of public resources while ensuring Pakistan maintains an active presence in international parliamentary platforms.
