PESHAWAR: President of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Junaid Altaf, held a significant meeting with Secretary Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Khalid Ilyas, to discuss tax-related matters and challenges faced by the business community.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the need for a clear and comprehensive property tax policy to remove ambiguity and facilitate traders. It was proposed that the Sarhad Chamber should be formally included in the policy-making process to ensure decisions reflect ground realities.The participants agreed to establish an Excise Department Facilitation Center at the Chamber, aimed at providing one-window services and ensuring prompt resolution of traders’ issues. The Secretary Excise also proposed organizing a special awareness workshop at the Chamber to promote tax education among the business community.
As part of practical measures, it was decided that Excise and Taxation officers would visit various markets daily for one hour to directly engage with traders and address their concerns. Instructions were issued to formalize this initiative through an official notification and forward it to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and other relevant authorities.Executive Committee members, Deputy Secretary, and other officials from the Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department were also present on the occasion.
