Turkmen MMA Star Dovletjan Yagshimuradov Named UN Friendship Games Goodwill Ambassador

Turkmen mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Dovletjan Yagshimuradov has been appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Friendship Games, marking a significant recognition of his achievements in international sports.The certificate of honor confirming his appointment was presented by Vepa Hajiev, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations, during a ceremony held at UN Headquarters.

Turkmenistan is the initiator of the UN Friendship Games, an annual sporting initiative aimed at promoting friendship, unity, and international cooperation through sports.Alongside Yagshimuradov, who boasts an impressive record of 26 MMA victories, renowned Russian MMA fighter Alexander Volkov was also named a Goodwill Ambassador.

The third edition of the UN Friendship Games has been underway since mid-June, bringing together diplomats from UN member states, international associations, and representatives of the United Nations to compete across 10 sporting events. The annual UN Friendship Games were officially established following the adoption of a UN General Assembly resolution in September 2024.
