ASHGABAT, August 20, 2026 — Political consultations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan were held at the level of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.The sides exchanged views on a broad range of issues concerning bilateral relations, with particular attention given to strengthening political and diplomatic cooperation.The parties expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness of their partnership within the framework of the United Nations. It was noted that Tajikistan has co-sponsored more than 30 resolutions adopted at Turkmenistan’s initiative.Trade and economic cooperation was also a key focus of the consultations.
The sides welcomed the steady growth in bilateral trade and discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in energy, transport and communications, agriculture, trade and investment.The parties highlighted the importance of the 14th meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation and the second meeting of the Turkmen-Tajik Business Council, both held in Dushanbe this year. These events were described as further evidence of the growing momentum in bilateral economic ties.Significant attention was also devoted to cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including joint activities planned for the near future.
Following the consultations, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining constructive dialogue and further strengthening friendly Turkmen-Tajik relations.On the same day, a Cooperation Programme between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2027–2028 was signed.
