THE HAGUE: Turkmenistan and the Netherlands have discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, transport, energy, agriculture and education during a meeting between Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen in The Hague.According to the press service of Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the continued development of Turkmen-Dutch relations and reaffirmed their interest in strengthening political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.
The foreign ministers also exchanged views on key regional and international issues. The Turkmen side reiterated its commitment to the principles of permanent neutrality, the UN Charter and the peaceful, diplomatic settlement of international disputes.Economic cooperation featured prominently in the talks, with both sides examining opportunities to expand business ties in transport and logistics, port infrastructure, agriculture and agrotechnology, energy, high technologies and industrial cooperation. The ministers also highlighted the importance of increasing direct contacts between businesses from the two countries.
Education and professional training were another area of discussion, including cooperation in the training of diplomatic personnel and engagement between Turkmenistan and the Netherlands Institute of International Relations “Clingendael.”The meeting also focused on equestrian cooperation, particularly the upcoming World Championship of Ahal-Teke horses in the Netherlands. International equestrian competitions are scheduled to take place from September 4 to 6 at the Pilbergen equestrian complex.The Dutch side welcomed the major event, which celebrates the distinctive Ahal-Teke horse and Turkmenistan’s longstanding traditions of horse breeding.
