HANOI: Vietnam’s leadership has expressed deep condolences to Venezuela following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the country, leaving at least 164 people dead and 971 others injured.Speaking at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said Party General Secretary and State President To Lam sent a message of condolence to Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Eloína Rodríguez Gómez after being informed of the disaster.Hang added that Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung, who is currently on an official visit to Venezuela, also conveyed Vietnam’s condolences in person.
Vietnam reaffirmed its readiness to provide appropriate support and assistance to Venezuela, citing the strong traditional friendship between the two countries.According to the latest update from Venezuelan authorities, the disaster was triggered by a magnitude 7.2 tremor followed less than a minute later by a more powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake, causing widespread destruction in several regions, including the capital, Caracas.The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela confirmed that Vietnamese nationals in the country remain safe and said it is closely monitoring the situation while maintaining citizen protection measures.
