Foreign ministers from 12 countries, including Pakistan, on Thursday strongly condemned Israel over its reported assault on the Global Sumud Flotilla, calling the incident a serious violation of international law.The reaction came after reports that Israeli naval forces targeted vessels involved in the flotilla’s Spring 2026 mission.
The flotilla aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza while drawing global attention to the worsening situation in the territory.According to available details, the incident took place in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Greece.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Brazil, Jordan, Pakistan, Spain, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Colombia, the Maldives, South Africa and Libya described the flotilla as a peaceful civilian initiative focused on highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.They termed the targeting of the vessels and the reported detention of humanitarian activists in international waters a “flagrant violation” of international law and international humanitarian law.
The ministers called on the international community to fulfil its legal and moral obligations by upholding international law, ensuring the protection of civilians and holding those responsible accountable.Meanwhile, the incident sparked widespread protests in Italy, where thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in cities including Rome, Milan, Naples and Turin, expressing anger over the reported attack.
