Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a meeting with Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman to discuss Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia and the broader regional security situation.
According to a statement shared by the Saudi defence minister on X early Saturday, the meeting focused on ways to halt the attacks and address their impact on regional peace and stability.“I met with His Excellency the Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Pakistani Army, Field Marshal Asim Munir,” Prince Khalid wrote on his official account.During the meeting, both sides reviewed the recent Iranian attacks on the kingdom and explored possible measures to prevent further escalation. Prince Khalid expressed hope that Iran would act with wisdom and avoid what he described as “wrong calculations.”The talks come at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East following strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran launched missiles and drones targeting several US bases across the Gulf region, including sites in Saudi Arabia.Pakistan and Saudi Arabia last year signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement, under which an attack on either country is considered an act of aggression against both.
The agreement was signed in Riyadh by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.Meanwhile, Saudi authorities reported that several drones targeting the Shayba oil field in the Empty Quarter were intercepted and shot down on Saturday.In a separate incident earlier this week, a drone struck the United States Embassy in Riyadh, causing a minor fire but no injuries.Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alireza Enayati, has denied Tehran’s involvement in the embassy attack, saying Iran had no role in the incident.
