ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (IN): Pakistan’s Asim Khan scripted history at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 by winning a bronze medal in mixed martial arts (MMA), earning the country’s first-ever medal in the sport at the continental multi-sport event.The landmark achievement came as Pakistan made its debut in MMA at the Asian Games, with Asim becoming the first Pakistani MMA athlete to stand on the podium.President Pakistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (PMMAF) Zulfiqar Ali congratulated Asim Khan on the historic achievement, saying the medal was the result of years of hard work, disciplined training and dedicated preparation.“Today is a historic day that will forever be remembered in the story of Pakistan MMA.
Through relentless hard work, determination and superb skill, Asim Khan has raised our national flag high on the global stage,” he said.Zulfiqar Ali said the achievement was a proud moment not only for the federation but for the entire nation. He also highlighted the contribution of Pakistan’s technical officials, noting that senior PMMAF official Abu Hurrara was selected by the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) to officiate at the Asian Games.He said the participation of Pakistani officials at the technical level also reflected the growing capability and professionalism of the country’s MMA community.
The PMMAF president thanked Pakistan Olympic Association President Mohammad Arif Saeed, Secretary General Mohammad Khalid Mahmood, Pakistan Sports Board and other supporting institutions for facilitating the national squad’s participation in the Asian Games.He expressed confidence that Pakistan has significant potential in MMA and could achieve greater international success with continued support, training opportunities and resources.Speaking after winning the historic medal, Asim Khan dedicated his achievement to the people of Pakistan and thanked the nation for its prayers and support.“I dedicate this medal to the people of Pakistan.
