LAHORE, September 30, 2026: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch has demanded the complete abolition of the petroleum levy, urging the prime minister to immediately initiate negotiations on the issue.Addressing a press conference at Mansoorah, Liaquat Baloch said the government should honour its commitment and begin talks without delay. He warned that any attempt to prolong the matter would lead to the launch of a “Super Long March” from Multan to Islamabad.He said PTI leader Asad Qaiser had contacted him by telephone regarding consultations and an invitation to an All Parties Conference. Liaquat Baloch said he would brief Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman about the PTI’s proposal.
Acting Secretary General Nazir Ahmad Janjua and Central Punjab Emir Javed Kasuri were also present.Liaquat Baloch said the campaign against the petroleum levy would continue, with Jamaat-e-Islami holding public gatherings in Hyderabad, followed by events in Okara, Charsadda and Buner. He said preparations for the proposed long march were being finalised across the four provinces, with reception camps planned along the route from Multan to Islamabad.
He reiterated that Jamaat-e-Islami believed in peaceful political struggle and had always conducted peaceful protest movements for public rights. He also supported the PTI’s right to protest, saying the Constitution allows individuals and political parties to exercise this right.Liaquat Baloch further said the country was facing serious challenges, including corruption, economic instability, insecurity and terrorism. He called for a national dialogue and urged the political leadership to agree on national priorities and work towards strengthening democratic institutions and governance.
