US President Donald Trump said Thursday that he advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to target Iran’s oil and gas infrastructure, as tensions in the region continue to escalate.Speaking to reporters, Trump confirmed he had directly communicated his concerns to Netanyahu. “Yeah, I did. I told him, don’t do that and he won’t do that,” Trump said, while emphasizing that both countries operate independently despite close coordination.“We didn’t discuss everything — we act independently, but we get along great. It’s coordinated,” Trump added, noting that he has, at times, intervened when he disagreed with Israeli actions.
The remarks come after Israel reportedly struck Iran’s South Pars gas field — the country’s largest natural gas reserve and a critical component of its economy — marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.Iran responded sharply, warning it would show “zero restraint” if further attacks target its infrastructure. Tehran also launched retaliatory strikes on energy facilities across the region, including in Qatar and Kuwait.
The escalating conflict has unsettled global energy markets, with oil and gas prices rising amid fears of broader supply disruptions.
