JAKARTA: Indonesia created football history by becoming the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup champions, defeating Thailand 4-2 on penalties after an intense 2-2 draw in the final at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.The dramatic victory sparked huge celebrations across Jakarta, with thousands of passionate Indonesian supporters taking to fan zones and public spaces, waving the red-and-white flag, chanting “Indonesia!” and celebrating deep into the night.Indonesia appeared to have secured the title when Dean James put the hosts ahead in the 84th minute, but Thailand quickly responded through Iklas Sanron to force extra time.

Thailand then regained the lead in the 111th minute through Peeradol Chamrasamee. Indonesia, however, refused to surrender. Elkan Baggott struck just five minutes later, sending the final to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.Indonesia held their composure when it mattered most, converting their chances to win the shootout 4-2 and lift the historic trophy.The triumph carried special significance for Indonesian football fans, coming after years of disappointment against Thailand.
