ISLAMABAD, October 6, 2026: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmed on Tuesday called for a long-term partnership with the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) to strengthen policy research, regulatory expertise and accountability reforms.Addressing the SDPI’s Special Guest Lecture Series, Gen Nazir said NAB was seeking to build greater intellectual and analytical capacity to conduct empirical research and provide input on technical laws and regulations.He said the Bureau was preparing a decade-long roadmap and wanted SDPI to become a long-term research partner in its reform journey.
He also expressed interest in the institute’s flagship Sustainable Development Conference (SDC) and proposed joint events on areas of mutual interest.The NAB chairman said the Bureau had established a dedicated awareness and prevention division and was empowered to review federal and provincial regulations, monitor their implementation and recommend necessary changes.He said NAB had identified its institutional weaknesses and developed a reform plan aimed at ensuring fair and transparent proceedings so that both accused persons and complainants could have confidence in the accountability process.Gen Nazir said NAB had also moved towards a paperless system and was preparing to introduce an indigenous AI-powered investigation model, “NAB-I,” aimed at reducing lengthy procedures from years to hours.He added that facilitation cells had been established for parliamentarians and the business community, while media briefings had been streamlined, with press conferences now held only twice a year.Gen Nazir said NAB wanted to transform its institutional achievements into tangible benefits for national development through a strong research partnership with SDPI, adding that the Bureau wanted to convey to society that “we are a power in the making.
”Earlier, SDPI Executive Director Dr Abid Qaiyum Suleri welcomed the NAB chairman and appreciated his proposal for an enduring partnership between the two institutions.Dr Suleri said the collaboration could support policy analysis and critical assessment of technical laws and regulations, contributing to improved accountability and sustainable development in the country.He also invited the NAB chairman to attend SDPI’s 29th Sustainable Development Conference, scheduled for November 2–5 at Allama Iqbal Open University, and explore opportunities for joint side events and awareness sessions.
