Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan Establish Supreme Council to Deepen Strategic Partnership

ASHGABAT: Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev have signed an agreement to establish a Supreme Council of Strategic Partnership, marking a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.According to the official website of the President of Uzbekistan, Mirziyoyev congratulated Berdimuhamedov on the 35th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s independence at the outset of their meeting. He also highlighted the outcomes of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, as well as the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The discussions focused on further strengthening the strategic partnership, with both leaders noting an increase in bilateral trade turnover since the beginning of the year and the role of the Shavat-Dashoguz border trade zone in promoting cross-border commerce.The two sides also discussed an action plan to significantly expand mutual trade and a cooperation programme covering key sectors, including industry, energy, transport, agriculture and water management.

The proposed initiatives are aimed at enhancing economic ties and regional cooperation.The newly signed agreement provides an institutional framework for strengthening political dialogue and broadening practical cooperation in priority areas, reflecting the shared commitment of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to deepen their strategic partnership.
