Azerbaijan to Assume CIS Co-Chairmanship in 2027, Signals Readiness to Take Over Chairmanship in 2028

TURKMENBASHI, October 9: Azerbaijan has welcomed the decision supporting its co-chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2027, describing it as a reflection of the high level of trust placed in the country by member states.President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude while addressing a restricted-format meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan.Aliyev said Azerbaijan viewed the decision as a demonstration of confidence in its role within the Commonwealth and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to actively contributing to the implementation of shared objectives and strengthening cooperation among CIS member states.

The Azerbaijani president also announced his country’s readiness to assume the CIS chairmanship in 2028 and host a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State in the autumn of that year.

He emphasized Azerbaijan’s willingness to play a constructive role in advancing the organization’s common agenda and promoting closer coordination among member countries.The announcement highlights Azerbaijan’s readiness to take on greater responsibilities within the CIS framework and contribute to regional cooperation and the development of relations among member states.
