The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to serve a show-cause notice to fast bowler Naseem Shah over a controversial post from his social media account that criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The incident took place during the opening ceremony of Pakistan Super League 11 at Gaddafi Stadium, where Maryam Nawaz attended as the chief guest.
During the ceremony, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi welcomed her and introduced her to franchise owners and players, while she conveyed her best wishes to the participating teams.Soon after, a post from Naseem Shah’s X (formerly Twitter) account gained attention. The now-deleted message questioned the manner in which the chief minister was being treated at the event, sparking widespread debate across social media and within the cricketing community.
Responding to the situation, Naseem Shah stated that his account had been hacked and that the post did not reflect his views. He later confirmed that the account had been recovered after the alleged breach.Despite his clarification, the PCB proceeded with disciplinary action, citing a breach of central contract terms as well as violations of its media policy and regulations. The board has asked the pacer to submit his response within a specified timeframe, after which a decision on further action will be made.
The PCB reiterated its commitment to maintaining professional standards, contractual discipline, and the integrity of the sport.Naseem Shah, who was signed for a significant amount in the recent player auction, is currently part of a Rawalpindi franchise in PSL 11. However, his participation in the tournament may be affected depending on the outcome of the ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
