Russia Urges Peace Push as US–Iran Talks Begin in Islamabad

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has said a “window of opportunity” is opening to ease tensions in the Persian Gulf, with many countries backing upcoming negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad, facilitated by Pakistan.The ministry noted that while momentum toward peace is building, certain elements are still hindering progress by creating obstacles and misrepresenting recent developments. It stressed that shipping in the Strait of Hormuz remained stable until late February and warned against shifting blame without acknowledging the full sequence of events.

Moscow emphasized that lasting stability depends on addressing the root causes of the conflict, including ending the war it says was initiated by the United States and Israe.Russia reaffirmed its position that disputes in the region should be resolved through political dialogue and diplomacy, pledging continued cooperation with international partners to support peace and stability in the Middle East.

It also urged all parties attending the Islamabad talks to act responsibly and avoid any steps that could undermine the opportunity for progress.Finally, Moscow reiterated its proposal for a comprehensive regional security framework in the Persian Gulf, based on dialogue among Gulf states, including Iran and Arab nations, with constructive support from external stakeholders to ensure a fair and lasting balance.
