ISLAMABAD, Apr 15 (IN): The Subh-e-Nau ITF Pakistan Junior International Tennis Championship (Leg-II) gained further intensity on Wednesday at the PTF Tennis Complex, where thrilling quarterfinal matches highlighted the rising talent of young players from around the world.
Organized by the Pakistan Tennis Federation, the prestigious junior tournament has drawn 41 participants—22 boys and 19 girls—from 15 countries, including Pakistan, China, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Australia, and the Netherlands, underlining its growing global recognition.In the boys’ singles quarterfinals, Pakistan’s Mikaeel Ali Baif delivered an impressive performance, defeating China’s Heran Zhang in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(3). Sri Lanka’s Ganuka Fernando secured a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win over Pakistan’s Ahtesham Humayun, while Pakistan’s Abubakar Talha overcame Hong Kong’s Jayden Park in a competitive match, 6-3, 7-5.
The contest between Amir Mazari and Hamza Roman remained unfinished at 3-3.The girls’ singles category was largely dominated by Chinese players, as Yijiia Wang, Zihan Feng, and Zhiyu Zhou advanced to the semifinals with convincing victories. Russia’s Varvara Rubtsova also booked her place in the next round after defeating China’s Ai Teng in a hard-fought three-set match.In the boys’ doubles event, Pakistan’s Zohaib Afzal Malik and M. Yahya recorded a notable victory against compatriots Amir Mazari and Ho Wan Yeung. Another Pakistani pair, Mikaeel Ali Baig and Ahtesham Humayun, kept their campaign alive with a straight-sets win over their Chinese opponents.In the girls’ doubles quarterfinals, teams from China, along with Russia-Kazakhstan and Japan-Thailand combinations, progressed to the next stage with dominant performances.
