Anti-Doctor Narratives Fueling Violence Against Healthcare Workers: PIMA

Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) has expressed grave concern over the growing violence against healthcare professionals, stating that hate-driven narratives and social media trials against doctors are creating an environment that encourages such incidents. PIMA Central President Prof.

Atif Hafeez Siddiqui, while condemning the acid attack on a lady doctor at Civil Hospital Quetta, said that the increasing incidents of violence, harassment, threats, and character assassination targeting doctors have become a deeply alarming trend.Addressing PIMA two-day Central Executive Council meeting in Islamabad, Prof. Atif Hafeez Siddiqui noted that in a country already facing a severe shortage of doctors, where healthcare professionals work under difficult conditions with limited resources and inadequate security, such tragic incidents not only demoralize doctors but also further weaken the healthcare system.

The Central Executive Council reviewed PIMA ongoing national activities, professional development initiatives, organizational affairs, public health awareness campaigns, major challenges faced by doctors and the healthcare sector, as well as medical relief projects being carried out within Pakistan and internationally, including in Gaza. The proceedings were conducted by Central General Secretary Dr. Ahmad Salman Ghauri, with assistance from Central Vice President Prof. Muhammad Tayyab.

He expressed full solidarity with Dr. Mahnoor and her family and called for the immediate implementation of effective security measures to protect doctors and healthcare staff in hospitals across the country. He emphasized that mere condemnatory statements and routine administrative actions are no longer sufficient.
