ISLAMABAD: A vibrant display of cultural diversity, academic collaboration and regional friendship marked the conclusion of the Online Internship Program (OIP) 2026 and ASEAN Village 2026, hosted by the Embassy of Indonesia in Islamabad under the auspices of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI).The event brought together diplomats, government officials, academics, students, media representatives and members of the ASEAN community to celebrate growing people-to-people links between Pakistan and Southeast Asian nations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Indonesian Ambassador Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo, who serves as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad, emphasized the significance of educational exchanges and cultural diplomacy in fostering stronger relations between ASEAN member states and Pakistan. He praised the active participation of students and partner institutions that contributed to the success of the month-long initiative.The Online Internship Program provided a platform for students, researchers and young professionals to engage in discussions on regional cooperation, economic integration, climate action, democratic development and socio-cultural connectivity across ASEAN countries.
The ceremony was attended by Punjab University Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Ali, senior officials from Pakistan’s Foreign Office, diplomats from ASEAN member states and distinguished guests from various sectors.A key feature of the event was the presentation of certificates and awards to outstanding participants who demonstrated exceptional commitment and performance throughout the internship program.Adding a festive atmosphere, the ASEAN Village showcased the rich cultural heritage of Southeast Asia through colorful exhibitions, traditional handicrafts, tourism displays and authentic cuisines from ASEAN countries. Visitors explored cultural stalls and experienced the region’s diverse traditions firsthand.
The High Commission of Brunei attracted considerable attention with an interactive cultural game, while traditional dances, musical performances and national dress presentations further highlighted the unique identities of ASEAN nations.Organizers noted that initiatives such as the Online Internship Program and ASEAN Village play an important role in promoting academic cooperation, cultural understanding and stronger connections between the peoples of ASEAN and Pakistan.The celebrations concluded with networking activities and an ASEAN-themed “Amazing Race,” reinforcing the spirit of friendship, mutual respect and regional cooperation that continues to strengthen ties between ASEAN member states and Pakistan.
