NDU Empowers Future Marketers with Insightful Strategic Marketing Program

The Department of Leadership & Management Studies, Faculty of Contemporary Studies, National Defence University (NDU), successfully concluded its Professional Certificate Program in Strategic Marketing, bringing together professionals, students, and industry experts for an enriching learning experience focused on modern marketing strategies, brand management, consumer behavior, and emerging business trends. The program served as a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and professional development, highlighting the critical role of strategic marketing in shaping organizations, industries, and nations.

Through expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, and practical case studies, participants gained valuable insights into contemporary marketing practices and their application in today’s competitive global environment.A key highlight of the program was the keynote session by renowned industrialist and business leader Mr. Imtiaz Rastgar, who delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled “Marketing Pakistan: From Image Deficit to Export Success.” Drawing on his extensive experience in international business development, Mr. Rastgar emphasized that nations, like corporations, must actively market themselves to attract investment, tourism, talent, and trade opportunities.

He noted that Pakistan continues to face image-related challenges stemming from negative international perceptions, which increase the cost of doing business and hinder export growth. However, he stressed that with strategic branding, professional representation, and a unified national narrative, Pakistan can reposition itself as a competitive destination for investment and global business.Sharing lessons from his tenure at the Engineering Development Board, Mr. Rastgar highlighted how targeted international marketing, participation in world-class trade fairs, export-oriented thinking, and effective branding helped significantly expand Pakistan’s engineering exports. He emphasized that mindset transformation, rather than technology alone, remains the key to sustainable economic growth.

Mr. Rastgar further underscored that every Pakistani—whether a student, entrepreneur, teacher, exporter, or public servant—is a brand ambassador for the country and has a role to play in projecting a positive image of Pakistan to the world. The closing ceremony was graced by Brig. Sheraz Afzal, Director IPLDC, who appreciated the initiative and emphasized the growing importance of strategic marketing competencies in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape. He commended the Department for fostering industry-academia collaboration and equipping participants with practical skills essential for professional success. The successful completion of the program reflects NDU’s continued commitment to excellence in management education, leadership development, and meaningful engagement with industry stakeholders.
