No Fire Extinguisher, No Travel: NHMP Enforces New Safety Rule on Highways from June 24

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign regarding the mandatory presence of fire extinguishers in vehicles, aimed at further improving road safety and ensuring the protection of human life and property on national highways and motorways. The initiative is designed to educate transporters, drivers, and the general public so that fire-related emergencies can be handled promptly and effectively.

The NHMP has announced that after 24 June 2026, strict legal action will be taken against public service (passenger) vehicles found operating on national highways and motorways without a functional fire extinguisher. However, in view of public facilitation and to ensure wider awareness, the awareness campaign has been extended for an additional 60 days for all other vehicle categories, including cars, jeeps, SUVs, LTVs, HTVs, and others.

During this period, vehicle owners and drivers will continue to be guided and educated to ensure compliance with essential safety measures. The National Highways and Motorway Police has urged all owners, transporters, and drivers of passenger vehicles to ensure that certified and serviceable fire extinguishers are installed in their vehicles at all times, in order to guarantee safe travel on national highways and motorways.
