Pakistan, Tajikistan Reaffirm Commitment to Expanding Economic and Energy Cooperation

Pakistan and Tajikistan have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, education, science and technology, tourism, transport, and other key sectors during the 8th Session of the Pakistan–Tajikistan Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation held in Dushanbe from June 2 to 3, 2026.The meeting was co-chaired by Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, and Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, with official delegations from both countries participating in the discussions.

During the session, both sides reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and explored new avenues for enhancing economic collaboration. Particular focus was placed on increasing trade volumes, expanding export and import opportunities, attracting investment, and strengthening direct business-to-business links.According to figures presented during the meeting, bilateral trade between Pakistan and Tajikistan reached US$43 million in 2025, while trade turnover during the first quarter of 2026 stood at US$8.9 million.

The two countries also underscored the strategic significance of the CASA-1000 regional electricity transmission project, describing it as a key initiative for advancing regional energy connectivity and cooperation.Expressing satisfaction over the outcomes of the session, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the agreed decisions and further deepening their mutually beneficial partnership.At the conclusion of the meeting, the co-chairs signed the Protocol of the 8th Session of the Pakistan–Tajikistan Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, paving the way for enhanced collaboration across multiple sectors.
