DUSHANBE — Tajikistan has begun construction of a major multifunctional architectural complex in the capital, featuring a 340-meter skyscraper that is set to become the tallest building in Central Asia.On September 3, President Emomali Rahmon and Senate Speaker and Mayor of Dushanbe Rustami Emomali laid the foundation stone for the ambitious project in the Shohmansur district.Covering 29 hectares, the complex will comprise 52 facilities, including five high-rise towers. Its centerpiece, the Dushanbe Tower, will stand 340 meters tall with 77 floors, surpassing Astana’s Abu Dhabi Plaza, which rises 311 meters across 75 floors.
The landmark tower and surrounding development will feature hotels, restaurants, retail outlets, offices, a 1,000-seat concert hall, cinema, entertainment facilities, sports complexes and landscaped public spaces. The project will also include a park with a lake, adding a major recreational area to the capital.Beyond the commercial and entertainment facilities, the development will feature 42 residential buildings with 6,160 apartments, as well as a school capable of accommodating 1,200 students and a kindergarten for 500 children.Construction is expected to take approximately five years and create employment for more than 2,000 local workers.
Authorities say the project will be developed in line with international standards and is intended to strengthen Dushanbe’s position as a modern regional urban and tourism hub.The announcement comes as Tajikistan continues to invest in tourism and urban development. Earlier, the country approved a $29 million tourism development plan aimed at supporting the growth of the sector.Once completed, the Dushanbe Tower is expected to become a defining landmark of the Tajik capital and a new symbol of the country’s rapidly developing urban landscape.
