Three people, including two real brothers, lost their lives when a tractor carrying passengers plunged into a deep ravine in the mountainous district of Shangla on Friday, local police and rescue officials said.
The tragic accident occurred on the Banar Khwargai Link Road in the upper parts of Union Council Dherai when a tractor traveling from Banar Khwargai towards Karora reportedly went out of the driver’s control and fell hundreds of feet into a deep gorge.According to local sources, the deceased were identified as Akbar Hussain and Akhtar Hussain, both sons of Pikhawaray, and their companion, Fawad Ali, son of Umar Rahman. All three residents belonged to the Banar Khwargai area of Shangla district.Witnesses said the tractor was transporting passengers when the driver suddenly lost control while negotiating the narrow and steep mountainous road.
The vehicle skidded off the track and tumbled into a deep ravine, causing fatal injuries to the occupants. The three victims died on the spot before any medical assistance could reach them.Soon after receiving information about the accident, teams from Rescue 1122, local residents, and personnel from Karora Police Station rushed to the scene and launched rescue and recovery operations. The difficult terrain and depth of the ravine made the operation challenging, but rescuers managed to retrieve the bodies and shift them to Karora Hospital.
Hospital sources confirmed that all three victims had succumbed to their injuries at the scene. After completion of legal and medical formalities, the bodies were handed over to their families for burial. The incident cast a pall of gloom over the area, particularly in Banar Khwargai village, where relatives, friends, and local residents gathered to mourn the untimely deaths. The loss of two brothers in a single accident further intensified the grief among family members and the local community.Residents expressed deep sorrow and condolences with the bereaved families and offered prayers for the eternal peace of the deceased.
They also highlighted the risks posed by poorly maintained and hazardous mountain roads, urging the authorities to improve road safety measures in remote areas of Shangla to prevent similar tragedies in the future.Police have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash. Preliminary reports suggest that loss of control by the driver may have been the primary cause of the accident; however, officials said a detailed inquiry is underway.Road accidents involving tractors and other transport vehicles remain a recurring concern in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where narrow roads, difficult terrain, and inadequate safety infrastructure often contribute to fatal incidents.
