RIGA: Uzbekistan and Latvia have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in road transport and logistics, including doubling the 2027 permit quota for freight carriers, during the Joint Commission on Road Transport meeting held in Riga.The Uzbek delegation was led by Mirnosir Yusupov, Head of the International Transport Analysis Department at the Ministry of Transport, while the Latvian delegation was headed by Tālivaldis Vectirāns, Director of the Department at Latvia’s Ministry of Transport.
The two sides reviewed the current state of transport and logistics cooperation and discussed measures to expand transit freight volumes, create more favorable conditions for carriers, improve the efficiency of logistics chains, and diversify cargo routes towards European markets.According to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport, both countries agreed to allocate additional road transport permits for Uzbekistan’s national carriers. The permits are expected to be prepared and issued to international transport operators by August 10.
The meeting also resulted in an agreement to double the 2027 permit quota, a move expected to significantly enhance opportunities for Uzbek transport companies to conduct international freight operations to Latvia and other European Union member states.At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in international road transport and advancing the digitalization of the transport and logistics sector.
