TASHKENT — Uzbekistan and Pakistan are seeking to strengthen cooperation in geology and the mining industry, with a focus on joint research, specialist training and closer ties between leading academic institutions.Minister of Mining Industry and Geology of Uzbekistan Bobur Islamov held talks with a delegation headed by Muhammad Zahid Latif, Rector of Pakistan’s National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), UzA reported.The sides discussed ways to combine the two countries’ expertise and resources in geology and mining, while expanding cooperation in education and scientific research.
Particular attention was given to establishing closer sectoral cooperation between the Ministry of Mining Industry and Geology and NUST, identifying promising areas for partnership and launching joint projects.The meeting also explored plans for exchanges of faculty members, researchers and industry specialists between the University of Geological Sciences (UGS) and NUST. The sides considered conducting joint research, sharing academic expertise and developing mutually beneficial educational programs.Participants also reviewed proposals to support and further develop NUST’s specialized department at UGS, including measures to strengthen its capacity and capabilities.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continued cooperation linking education, science and practical experience in geology and mining. The sides said such efforts could help expand joint projects, strengthen scientific ties and improve the quality of training for highly qualified specialists in the sector.
