Việt Nam, China Agree to Elevate Bilateral Ties in New Phase

BEIJING, April 15: Tô Lâm and Xi Jinping on Wednesday pledged to deepen and elevate relations between Vietnam and China, marking a new phase of comprehensive strategic cooperation.The agreement came during high-level talks held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, following an official welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese leader.Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening political trust, expanding economic cooperation, and enhancing coordination on regional and global issues.

They emphasized that closer ties would contribute to peace, stability, and development in the region and beyond.President Tô Lâm underscored that developing relations with China remains a “top priority” in Vietnam’s foreign policy, highlighting principles of independence, self-reliance, and diversified international engagement. He also reiterated Vietnam’s adherence to the “one China” policy and support for Beijing’s global initiatives.President Xi Jinping, in turn, praised Vietnam’s recent achievements and reaffirmed China’s support for its socialist development path. He described Vietnam as a priority in China’s neighborhood diplomacy and expressed confidence in Hanoi’s future growth.

The leaders noted growing cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, and people-to-people exchanges, while agreeing to further boost connectivity, including railway projects and supply chain integration.Both sides also announced the launch of the Vietnam–China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026–2027, aimed at increasing travel flows and improving tourism services. Proposals such as visa facilitation for group tourists were also discussed.On regional matters, the two leaders agreed to manage differences peacefully and in accordance with international law, including the 1982 UNCLOS, while accelerating negotiations on a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea.

The meeting concluded with both countries committing to expand collaboration across multiple sectors and maintain regular high-level exchanges to sustain momentum in bilateral relations.
