HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam and Thailand have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a renewed focus on parliamentary cooperation and knowledge sharing, during a high-level meeting in Hà Nội.National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn held talks with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who is on an official visit to Việt Nam and attending the third ASEAN Future Forum.
Welcoming the Thai delegation, Chairman Mẫn highlighted that the visit comes on the heels of recent high-level exchanges, including the official trip to Thailand by Việt Nam’s top leadership. He stressed that these engagements are creating fresh momentum to advance the Việt Nam–Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a more practical and effective direction—especially as the two nations mark 50 years of diplomatic relations.Prime Minister Anutin expressed his pleasure at his first official visit to Việt Nam, underscoring the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the two countries. He also conveyed greetings and an invitation from Thailand’s parliamentary leadership for Chairman Mẫn to visit Thailand.
Both sides noted the strong development of bilateral ties across key areas, including politics, defence, security, trade, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. They agreed to further deepen political trust through regular high-level visits and closer coordination at regional and global forums such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and APEC.A key focus of the meeting was enhancing parliamentary collaboration. Building on a 2023 Memorandum of Understanding between Việt Nam’s National Assembly and Thailand’s House of Representatives, the two sides pledged to expand exchanges among lawmakers, including women and young parliamentarians, and strengthen cooperation between legislative bodies.
Looking ahead, the leaders committed to effectively implementing the Action Programme for the 2026–2031 period and boosting economic connectivity under the “Three Connects” Strategy. They also set an ambitious target of reaching US$25 billion in bilateral trade in the near future, while expanding cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.In addition, both countries emphasised the importance of sustainable development in the Mekong subregion, particularly in managing water resources and mitigating the environmental impacts of development activities.
Chairman Mẫn also expressed appreciation for Thailand’s continued support for the Vietnamese community living and working in the country, describing them as a vital bridge of friendship between the two nations.The meeting concluded with mutual invitations for further high-level visits, reflecting the shared determination to elevate Việt Nam–Thailand relations to new heights.
