Kazakhstan Moves to Fully Digital Work Permit System for Migrant Workers

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Kazakhstan has prepared a draft regulation aimed at transitioning public services related to labor permits into a fully digital format.

Under the proposed system, labor migrants will be able to apply for and renew their work permits remotely, eliminating the need to visit government offices in person. Applicants will also have the ability to track the status of their submissions online, improving convenience and efficiency.

The reform is designed to streamline procedures by reducing processing times, cutting administrative hurdles, and limiting human intervention in the process. Authorities believe the move will enhance transparency and ensure equal access to services for applicants across the country, regardless of their location. In a related development, a total of 3,335 ethnic Kazakhs have returned to their historical homeland since the beginning of 2026.
