Islamabad, April 30, 2026 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Yerzhan Kistafin, visited Bahria University in Islamabad, where he met with the Rector, Vice Admiral Abid Hameed HI (M), and addressed students and faculty members.During his meeting with the university leadership, both sides discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in higher education and establish direct linkages between Pakistani and Kazakh universities.
Vice Admiral Abid Hameed expressed strong interest in expanding academic collaboration and announced plans to send a delegation to Kazakhstan to further strengthen institutional ties.In his lecture, the Ambassador spoke about the current state of Kazakhstan–Pakistan relations and highlighted key outcomes of the recent state visit of the President of Kazakhstan, H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to Pakistan on February 3–4 this year. He also discussed ongoing political and institutional reforms in Kazakhstan.
Mr. Kistafin provided an overview of the growing partnership between the two countries, emphasizing progress in political dialogue, trade and economic cooperation, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges at both bilateral and regional levels.He particularly highlighted the historic significance of the first presidential visit to Pakistan since 2003, which resulted in the signing of a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership and over 70 agreements and memoranda of understanding.The Ambassador also outlined recent constitutional reforms in Kazakhstan, including changes approved through the nationwide referendum held on March 15. These reforms, he noted, aim to modernize the political system, strengthen parliamentary authority, enhance human rights protections, and improve public governance transparency.
He further stressed the importance of regional cooperation in areas such as security, sustainable development, transport connectivity, and new economic initiatives.Later, the Ambassador gave an interview to Bahria University Television (BUTV), where he elaborated on priorities in Pakistan–Kazakhstan relations, with special emphasis on cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
