Strict legal action promised against electoral fraud, illegal trade practices, and financial misconduct ahead of July polls
Algerian President has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent legislative elections scheduled for July 2, emphasizing that all necessary measures are in place to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.He highlighted the establishment of the Independent National Electoral Authority (ANIE) as a key reform aimed at eliminating doubts surrounding elections. According to the President, electoral fraud is no longer a part of Algeria’s political landscape, reflecting the state’s firm stance against malpractice and the misuse of money in politics.Issuing a stern warning, he stated that any attempt to compromise the credibility of the Election will be met with strict legal consequences.
Individuals found guilty of manipulating party memberships or candidate endorsements could face severe penalties, including suspension, dismissal, loss of political mandate, or legal prosecution.“The law applies equally to everyone. No one is above the law,” he stressed, underscoring the government’s resolve to build a strong and transparent state system.On the role of women in politics, the President emphasized merit-based participation, noting that leadership opportunities should be driven by competence and vision rather than quotas, which he suggested could have unintended negative effects.
Addressing economic concerns, he warned against illegal commercial activities, particularly speculation on Eid livestock, stating that those exploiting citizens would face heavy penalties. He also raised alarm over under-invoicing in the export sector, revealing that $350 million in export revenues had not been repatriated.Reflecting on past corruption, he remarked that while the country had overcome the influence of the so-called “issaba” involved in over-invoicing, new challenges have emerged with actors engaging in under-invoicing practices.The President concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and economic stability, ensuring that violations in any sector will not go unpunished.
