ISLAMABAD: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Dr. TANAKA Akihiko is on his first official visit to Pakistan since assuming office, marking the first visit by a JICA President to the country since 2020.As part of his visit, Dr. Tanaka travelled to Faisalabad on August 2 to inspect the Old Jhal Khanuana Water Treatment Plant and associated water supply facilities developed with JICA’s grant assistance.During the visit, he reviewed the newly operational water treatment plant, upgraded transmission and distribution networks, and digital (DX)-enabled water supply systems designed to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, and sustainable drinking water to residents.
Dr. Tanaka also met with local families benefiting from the project and heard firsthand how improved access to clean water has enhanced their daily lives and overall well-being.The visit underscored the positive outcomes of Japan-Pakistan development cooperation and reaffirmed JICA’s continued commitment to strengthening urban water infrastructure, improving public services, and deepening the longstanding partnership between Japan and Pakistan. JICA reiterated its support for ensuring safe and sustainable water services for the people of Faisalabad.
