Kazakhstan Champions Global AI Cooperation at UN Dialogue, Madiyev Unveils Vision for an AI-Native Future

Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev calls for stronger regional collaboration and highlights Almaty’s growing role in advancing digital innovation across Asia-Pacific.

ASTANA: Kazakhstan reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive and interoperable artificial intelligence (AI) governance at the inaugural UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, where Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev presented the country’s vision of becoming an AI-native nation.The high-level dialogue, held on July 6-7 alongside the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and ahead of the AI for Good Global Summit, brought together global leaders to shape the future of AI governance.

Addressing the gathering, Madiyev reiterated Kazakhstan’s strong support for the United Nations and its digital transformation agenda, emphasizing the country’s commitment to international cooperation in building responsible and inclusive AI systems.He highlighted the recent adoption by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of a consensus resolution establishing the Asia-Pacific Digital Solutions Center for Sustainable Development in Almaty. Madiyev invited member states to nominate national experts to contribute to the center’s work.”We believe the center will serve as a practical platform for testing and scaling innovative digital solutions across the region, while strengthening cooperation in support of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda,” he said.

Madiyev noted that the dialogue holds particular importance for Kazakhstan as it pursues its Digital Kazakhstan-2029 strategy, which aims to transform the country into a fully digital nation within the next three years by evolving from advanced e-government to an AI-native economy.He reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to share its expertise, launch joint pilot projects, and develop interoperable AI governance frameworks in partnership with the international community.On the sidelines of the event, Madiyev also held a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, discussing cooperation on global digital and AI initiatives.
