Measures Against Harmful Online Content Are Essential for the Moral Protection of Youth, Says Syed Samar Islam Bacha

MARDAN: Syed Samar Islam Bacha, General Secretary of the Youth Wing of Human Rights Protection and Social Justice Mardan Division, presented an important resolution during the parliamentary session of the Future Leader Youth Assembly, highlighting the moral and social challenges faced by the younger generation and emphasizing the need to protect societal values and promote the responsible use of digital media. In his resolution, he raised the question of whether platforms such as TikTok and pornographic websites should be completely banned in an Islamic country like Pakistan. He stated that Pakistan is a nation where Islamic teachings, modesty, morality, and good character hold fundamental importance. However, in the modern era, the internet and social media have become an integral part of everyday life, particularly for young people. While these platforms offer significant benefits in education, research, access to information, and communication, some of their negative aspects have become a source of concern for society.Syed Samar Islam Bacha noted that many users on TikTok and other social media platforms create educational, informative, and positive content. However, some individuals share inappropriate and low-quality material merely to gain fame, likes, and views. As a result, valuable time is wasted, and many young people begin to neglect their studies, careers, and other important responsibilities.Referring to the harmful effects of pornographic websites, he said that such content can have serious negative impacts on the mental, moral, and social development of young people. Exposure to such material at an early age can influence their thinking, character, and behavior, increasing the risk of moral and social problems within society. He stressed that a strong and healthy society can only be built when its youth possess positive thinking, good morals, and strong character. The resolution called upon the government to introduce effective legislation, monitoring mechanisms, and awareness campaigns to protect young people from harmful and unethical online content. It also emphasized the responsibility of parents, teachers, and other stakeholders in society to guide the younger generation and encourage them to use the internet and social media in a positive and constructive manner.Concluding his address, Syed Samar Islam Bacha urged young people to utilize social media and modern technology for education, research, skill development, and self-improvement. He expressed confidence that if the youth are provided with proper guidance and positive upbringing today, they will play a vital role in Pakistan’s future development, prosperity, and stability.Participants of the session described the resolution as an important initiative for raising awareness among young people and addressing the challenges of the digital age. They emphasized the need to promote societal values, moral education, and responsible digital behavior among the youth.
