Rawalpindi, The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) convened a Standing Committee Meeting on Gems & Jewellery at the Chamber Building, bringing together key stakeholders to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities within the sector.The meeting was chaired by RCCI President Usman Shaukat alongside Chairman Standing Committee Ghulam Mustafa. Group Leader Sohail Altaf made a special appearance, while Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Vice President Fahad Barlas, Vice Chairman Ziaullah Shah, former President Asad Mashadi, executive committee members, and representatives from the gems and jewellery sector were also in attendance.
The session provided a comprehensive platform to discuss the immense export potential of Pakistan’s gems and jewellery industry, while also addressing critical challenges impeding its growth. Participants expressed serious concerns over the excessive use of authority by FBR and other tax departments, particularly in the name of registration, digital invoicing, and compliance procedures, which they noted has led to undue harassment of businesses.Speaking on the occasion, RCCI President Usman Shaukat reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the business community. He assured participants that RCCI would take up these issues with relevant authorities to ensure facilitation, transparency, and ease of doing business.
Group Leader Sohail Altaf appreciated the efforts of the committee leadership in ensuring active participation and acknowledged the constructive input shared by members, emphasizing the importance of collective dialogue in policy advocacy.The meeting concluded with a consensus to formulate practical and actionable recommendations aimed at boosting exports and streamlining regulatory frameworks to unlock the true potential of the gems and jewellery sector.
