Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani condemns India’s August 5, 2019 actions, calls for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions.
ISLAMABAD, Aug. 4: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), saying the country would continue to stand by the Kashmiris in their just struggle for the right to self-determination.In a special message issued on the eve of Youm-e-Istehsal, the Chairman Senate said India’s unilateral and illegal actions of August 5, 2019 were a blatant violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, international law, and universally accepted human rights principles.He said Youm-e-Istehsal serves as a reminder of the sacrifices, resilience, and continued suffering of the Kashmiri people, while also urging the international community to recognize the grave injustices being committed in the occupied territory and fulfill its responsibility towards ensuring justice and lasting peace.Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani observed that since August 5, 2019, India had intensified efforts to alter the demographic composition of IIOJK, undermine its distinct identity, suppress political leadership, restrict fundamental freedoms, and commit serious human rights violations.
He emphasized that no amount of coercion or state repression could suppress the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiri people for freedom, dignity, and their internationally recognized right to self-determination.The Chairman Senate reiterated that Pakistan would continue extending unwavering support to the people of IIOJK and stressed that the longstanding Kashmir dispute could only be resolved through a peaceful settlement in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.He said a just and peaceful resolution of the dispute was essential for ensuring lasting peace, security, and prosperity in South Asia.
Calling upon the United Nations, the international community, global human rights organizations, and other influential institutions, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani urged them to take effective notice of the ongoing human rights violations and illegal actions in the occupied territory and play a meaningful role in ensuring India’s compliance with international law and its human rights obligations.Reaffirming Pakistan’s steadfast position, the Chairman Senate said the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters and would continue to support their legitimate and inalienable right to self-determination until its realization.
