ISLAMABAD, Apr 29 (IN): Cultural diplomacy between Pakistan and Russia gained fresh momentum on Wednesday as Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev called on Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, with both sides outlining an ambitious roadmap to expand cooperation in arts, film, and heritage.
During the meeting, the minister appreciated the longstanding cultural ties between the two countries and stressed the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections through artistic and cultural exchanges. He noted that Pakistan has invited Russian musicians, artists, and dancers to showcase their talent and traditions in the country.Highlighting Pakistan’s cultural infrastructure, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi said premier institutions like Lok Virsa and Pakistan National Council of the Arts offer strong platforms to host and promote Russian cultural activities.He added that once the pending Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is finalized—following the expected visit of the prime minister—both countries would be better positioned to organize joint exhibitions, art displays, and painting showcases celebrating Pak-Russia relations.
He also noted that Pakistan is actively organizing cultural weeks with friendly countries to promote global understanding.Ambassador Khorev invited the minister to attend Russia’s National Day celebrations in Islamabad and shared that the Niftysphere Institute of Arts and Design would present Russian costumes as part of the cultural showcase.The ambassador praised the efforts of Advisor for Cultural Affairs Usman Shah for his role in strengthening cultural ties.Expressing strong interest in further collaboration, Ambassador Khorev revealed that several Russian films have already been dubbed into Urdu and proposed organizing special screening sessions in Pakistan. He also suggested inviting Russian filmmakers for interactive discussions to deepen cultural understanding.
He further proposed organizing a “Russian Week” in Pakistan, featuring films, documentaries, and cultural activities reflecting the heritage of both nations, while emphasizing the importance of formal agreements to institutionalize cooperation.Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to expanding cultural relations and promoting mutual understanding through sustained collaboration in arts, heritage, and creative industries.
