Tbilisi: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has been awarded the Order of the Golden Fleece, Georgia’s highest state honor, during an official ceremony held at the Orbeliani Palace in Tbilisi.The prestigious award was presented by Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili in recognition of President Mirziyoyev’s outstanding contribution to strengthening the multifaceted partnership and friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia.Expressing his gratitude after receiving the honor, President Mirziyoyev thanked President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili for the distinction. He also conveyed his best wishes for lasting peace, prosperity, and well-being to the people of Georgia.Established in 1998, the Order of the Golden Fleece is one of Georgia’s most prestigious state decorations.
It is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to enhancing relations with foreign countries and international organizations, as well as promoting Georgian culture, science, and the arts.The order takes its name from the ancient legend of the Golden Fleece and Colchis, the historic region located in present-day Georgia.
Among the distinguished international figures previously honored with the Order of the Golden Fleece are Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, King Abdullah II of Jordan, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and late Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev.As part of the ceremony, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also signed the Guest Book of Honor at the historic Orbeliani Palace, marking another significant milestone in the growing partnership between Uzbekistan and Georgia.
